The Southwest's Children's Team will be taking a regular programming break from May 11-30th to prepare for Summer Reading. Programs will resume on Monday, June 1st!
Grab a book or device (and headphones if needed), a blanket, or a chair and join us in a bucolic setting at Oak View while we read quietly together in nature!
For this book club, there is no pre-arranged reading list and audiobooks are welcome. Simply register, bring what you like to read, and join others for an hour of silent reading. We begin with an optional introduction and a brief mention of the titles we are enjoying. Then we quietly read for the rest of the time. All independent readers are welcome. We look forward to quietly reading with you!
Program will run rain or shine. Should there be rain, the event will take place in a climate controlled building. Joining the assembly may include walking on paved brick paths or uneven ground.

Hear the splash of water on the waterwheel, and join our historical interpreters for a tour inside the mill, where you can watch the millstones at work grinding corn into meal. The Bimbé Cultural Arts Festival celebrates West African traditions and culture. All events are free and open to the public. There will be weekday and weekend activities, offering a wide range of programs including music, dance and readings. There will also be a full range of vendors offering local crafts, artwork, food and drink.

DPR staff will review each application to confirm space is available as well as compare the food and beverage offerings listed on the application to ensure there is a balance of items for sale. Event staff will contact selected applicants to provide further instructions for payment of the vendor fees and others on their waitlist status.
All items being consumed by participants (whether it is beverages, food, desserts, frozen treats, ice cream, etc.) are considered to be a food vendor.

West Point on the Eno is not your typical historical site. It's not a battleground for major wars, nor the birthplace of presidents. Instead, it's a vivid tapestry of everyday yet extraordinary lives from Durham's past. Here, the routine of mill workers, the creativity of people like photographer Hugh Mangum, and the stories within the historic house are discovered and shared. These are tales of ordinary people whose lives, like yours, are extraordinary in their own right. Discover a different kind of history at West Point on the Eno, where the extraordinary is found in the ordinary. Take a guided walking tour of West Point on the Eno's historic park.
Tours leave on the hour at 12 pm, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm. Registration is required.
