SUMMARY:Wearing Words: A Mask-Making & Poetry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join author and poet Khalisa Rae in her Inspired Writer Serie
s with Durham County Library!\n\n\nInspired by Paul Laurence Dunbar’s “W
e Wear the Mask”\n\n\n\nWhat masks do we wear to survive?\nWho are we un
derneath them?\n\nInspired by Paul Laurence Dunbar’s iconic poem “We Wea
r the Mask\,” this workshop invites participants to explore the emotiona
l\, social\, cultural\, and personal masks they wear every day. Through
 guided discussion\, collage\, reflection\, and poetry writing\, particip
ants will create both a physical “mask” and a written piece that explore
s the tension between what we reveal and what we hide.\n\nThis workshop
 centers honesty\, creativity\, softness\, and radical self-expression. P
articipants do not need prior poetry experience—just a willingness to re
flect and create.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNext session is "So You Want to be a Pu
blished Writer?" on June 23\, 2026 at East Regional Library.\n\nSource:
