This class is geared towards beginner paddles to learn the basics of kayaking in a fun and safe environment. We will teach you basic water safety and strokes. Feel free to stay after and paddle on your own in order to explore all that Lake Michie has to offer. DPR Outdoor Recreation will provide the equipment. Participants need to wear weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Preregistration is required for all participants.

In the P. B. I. R. D. S. program participants will learn the basic fundamentals of basketball including passing, ball-handling, intangibles, rebounding, defense, and shooting. Participants will gain new skills and improve their game in a fun and friendly environment. All equipment is provided. Wear comfortable clothing and closed toed athletic shoes.

Ready for your love for flowers to blossom? Come learn the basics of making your own floral arrangement and bring home a personalized bouquet for your home or for a loved one! We will use seasonal flowers from our agricultural areas so let’s make something bouquet-iful!

The focus of this 10-hour workshop is to prepare participants from a variety of educational backgrounds and experiences in both the formal and non-formal sectors to use exemplary Environmental Education teaching methods. Participants will learn about a variety of teaching techniques, methods and instructional strategies; and the workshop will include multiple interactive components. This is a required workshop for all NC Environmental Education Certification candidates.
Note: You MUST have completed and received credit for the Basics of Environmental Education 10 hour Independent Study before enrolling in the workshop. Anyone who hasn’t completed Basics of EE will be placed on a waiting list.

Farmers must carefully nurture their gardens, but how do wild plants grow? Join us this month as we read Planting the Wild Garden by Kathryn Galbraith to discover how Mother Nature gardens. We'll study various types of seeds from native plants and make a garden craft to take home.
Children must be registered and accompanied by an adult. Storytime for Tots is a monthly series, and includes a story followed by nature exploration and a craft or activity.

This program emphasizes fun, sportsmanship, and camaraderie, and is a light-hearted, confidence-boosting introduction to the sport.

Learn about a community of animals that live together on a single flower as we read On One Flower by Anthony Fredericks. Expand your repertoire of outdoor activities as we explore, strategize, and play leisure sports together. Join us each session to learn the rules, history, and etiquette of a new lawn game.
This session we will be learning the game of Kubb. Originating in Sweden, this lawn game using wooden batons to knock over wooden blocks is described as a combination of the bowling and horseshoes. The game is easy to pick up and can be played nearly anywhere. Come enjoy this relaxed Viking past-time.
