About the event
Come on out to historic Maplewood Cemetery where we'll travel back in time and get to know some of Durham's dearly departed permanent "residents." Our staff will present the lives and times of those who came before us while also exploring the importance of cemeteries as public spaces for enrichment and community connection. Staff will discuss the significance of symbols on headstones, teach the technique of headstone etchings, and provide information about how to explore other cemeteries in Durham. Join us for Durham Roots to discover Durham's history and the importance of community cemeteries for public memory.
