About the event

Join us at Sandy Pines Preserve on Friday, July 24th from 8:00 pm—11:00 pm to celebrate Moth Week!

We will use a common method of surveying moths called light sheeting, which involves setting up a sheet in a natural area and shining a bright light on it to attract moths and other nocturnal insects. We'll monitor the sheet throughout the night and identify anything that lands.

We'll meet in the Sandy Pines parking lot at 8:00 pm (7201 Doc Procter Rd, Wendell, NC 27591) and work adjacent to the parking lot and artificial wetland.

What to bring: Light (headlamp or flashlight preferable), close-toed shoes, chair, snack, water, dark clothing

What not to bring: Pets, bug spray (it's harmful to the insects we'll be working with)

Final decisions regarding weather will be made by 1:30 pm on July 24th.

Please reach out to Ashley Gagnon with any questions or accessibility considerations (ashley.gagnon@wake.gov, 919-208-8259).

See you there!

America 250 Art Exhibition

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest, NC, is inviting artists of all ages, abilities, and mediums to submit an original work of art that answers the question, “What does America mean to you?” for its America 250 Art Exhibit. The submission deadline is Sunday, May 24. Designed to give visual artists an opportunity to display and sell their work in a gallery setting, the exhibit will include 64 linear feet of hanging space and a medium-sized display cabinet to showcase 2D and 3D works for art. Selected works of art will be displayed in the Renaissance Centre Arts Annex Monday, June 8, through Friday, July 17. The Renaissance Centre will honor the artists and their works during a special reception on Friday, June 12, from 6-8 p.m. in the Renaissance Centre Arts Annex. The reception is free and open to the public, and works will be available for purchase through the artists. For more information, contact RC Arts Coordinator April Cannon at 919-435-9568.
